artist statement

Is it even right to call yourself an artist? What is art and who decides it?

For me art is a feeling, like a memory stuck in limbo. Sometimes you can nearly grasp it and then it slips away. Art is also experience for me. I digest memories with it and create a different story for them. It is also a performance.

My photography works are focused on aesthetics, but my inside world looks distorted. I want to escape this world, by creating worlds with Fantasy. Witchcraft, Religion and Mythology feel the closest to escape a mundane life. Is there a god or are there gods? Are we going to heaven, hell or get reborn? Any gods are dead for me, but creating worlds about them, is the closet thing that takes the darkness, of having an eternal death.

When there is darkness, there is also lightness, which I have learned from the myth of Persephone. She is the goddess of spring, but also of hell. This is a balance that really inspires me.
