When memories haunt you and linger like ghosts, leaving only invisible bruises, they echo into new ones. Growing up in foster care creates such ghosts. It may leave you estranged, fragmented, fearful or in despair.

This book offers a glimpse behind the veil of growing up between neglect, control and the failure of a system meant to protect – told through a mythological lens, interwoven with diary fragments, photographs and poems that blur the line between raw reality and surreal fever dreams.

Ghost of Childhood is an interdisciplinary work in which photography, layout design, lyric, and psychology interact through the lens of metaphor. It expands upon the eponymous photo series and serves as an artistic exploration of the question „How can the medium of photography be used as an artistic tool for processing post-traumatic stress disorders, particularly by conceiving a meta-level of symbolic and metaphorical representations in combination with photographic methods“
